Rusted and coated steel
40”x21” (With free standing base: 59”x21”)
This work explores how presence can be created through outline, absence, and time. Made from welded steel, the form is activated by light. As light moves, it casts a shifting shadow that extends beyond the structure itself, creating a second, temporary body that is never fixed.
The piece studies exposure and awareness. Rather than relying on solid mass, it uses skeletal structure and negative space, holding itself in balance. The shadow only appears under certain conditions and changes depending on position, distance, and duration.
Selective rusting introduces vulnerability as both a material and visual element. Some areas are protected while others are allowed to weather, making the passage of time visible. What is revealed depends on where the viewer stands and how long they remain. Meaning unfolds gradually through sustained attention rather than immediate recognition.
